oh my. what a pile of yummy cloth. a lot of the beauty comes from glennis and heike...and some of my old clothes. i'm hoping to make a vest with blues fading to creams. it is inspired by the sea, the sky and the moon. i will have many moons on it and some of them will be glennis's moons some my own. i have a pattern that i like ... hoping it will fit on an old skirt for the lining...if not i have some old silk that has been washed and softened. i got it in thailand about 25 years ago.
i am so excited to be back into my cloth projects... my room is almost in order...enough for me to start anyway. and life has settled down enough too... for the moment!
i have signed up for jude's contemporary boro class. i'm not sure what we will do but i have some projects i want to work on... i will be gathering more for a second project and will show you that as soon as i gather them together. judes first assignment was to make piles!!!

Sea, sky, moon, elemental yet ethereal, a pile of blues that just in this state, calm and quiet the soul. There is a kind of wabi-sabi essence here, in the sense of the simplicity of the cloth and by that I refer to the tonality of colors that allows for its beauty to come forth. From the book by Leonard Koren, Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers, Koren speaks of the material quality of Wabi-Sabi by noting that Wabi Sabi is unpretentious and adds, " Things Wabi Sabi...are understated and unassuming, yet not without presence."
This pile of blues already has a presence as it waits to be transformed from a pile of blues, with a possible old skirt lining , into a boro vest; cloth with utility and original beauty.

Love your pile of blues and plans for it...will be fun to see it evolve. I'm looking forward to Jude's class too tho' I already see a little problem: I don't really have any old, unworn clothing or miscellaneous fabrics around...guess I'm going to have to hit second-hand clothing stores and friends...that should be great fun...

wabi sabi is something i alway aspire to... i love that book by koren... blue has always had this feel to me, somehow marti. and the pile is always enough jude, but we seem to strive for more than enough in this case... we want to be part of the pile by putting it in order somehow. and honore, you have quite an adventure hitting up goodwill and second hand stores ahead of you.
