roots

this is the working title... it is still in process but the design/placement is generally in the right place. there will be handwork and more machine work. but after a week of work i am happy to be this far along. the class was great and none of the work looked like hers... i think that is the best compliment.

nance, i cannot comment well yet,
need to look much longer, slower,
but want to say just immediately
that this is a real turning point,
isn't it.

and i still don't have the proper words to describe what i mean by "turning point", so i will just say some things...
there are
spaces
between the components, and they
are clearly deliberate and needed,
you took great care to place each
piece of fabric just as it is
and left these
spaces.
it has a story, as in, when you
look, there occurs a story in the
mind.
what i look at first is the piece
under the trees that is permeated
with light...that emanates through
the sense of the whole piece, for me. it's a transitional place
like a membrane, i can't think of
the word, but like a placenta.
the inbetween place
where the above and the below
make the exchange.
the roots, of course are magnificant and feel to me like
tubers of iris. thick and i love
the tendril tangle
that dark place on the left...
a mystery. i can't really see what
it is?
and i wonder about it but what it does DO very well is emphasize the
luminous piece...

and then the trees. the trees
are what we "know" and have all
in common which provides relief.
it's all the rest, the roots, that
space, the dark place, that will be
unique to each viewer.
i like this a lot. really really
a LOT. a LOT.
love, moi
