its been sunny here and perfect for some tea dyeing. i am really happy with my results. i've got a couple more brewing as we speak! this is old silk from a scarf of my grandmothers it has plenty of tiny holes in it that need to be mended too. parts of it have embroidered butterflies which i am nervous about getting wet. the purpose of this was to find a good backing for the sun moon stars piece... this isn't what i had in mind though it is beautiful... i might try another dye... turmeric maybe. see you later and happy 4th!

what caused the marks?????
they are like lichen to me....
were they noticable before the
tea?, or did they just appear once in the tea?
i read in india that you should not rinse after the dye... just let it sit. and when i did the dye settled into the areas where the marks are. so the next morning there they were and i just let it dry and ironed it.
you do rinse but only after you let it sit... i deleted the last post because i misspelled a word...
simply wonderful! i've always enjoyed tea dyeing, but never really thought about laying it out in the sun to dry...i shall have to try this. i love the way the tea settled and created those amazing marks!

I love tea dyeing and you know one fun thing to try is to take a leaf or anything with a shape that you like and place it on a wet tea stained cloth and lay it out in the sun when the wind will not move the object or the cloth and just see what happens .. pretty fun to do.. but these happen stance shapes that have formed on your scarf are just beautiful!!! Thanks for your comments on my blog and I have four grandchildren .. two girls and two boys all three and under haha and two more on the way... life is bliss with babies!!!
